How to Do Hardwood Floor Cleaning

If you have already taken the plunge and invested in a beautiful new hardwood floor, you are probably excited to see how the rest of your house matches it. But before you run right out there trying to dust, mop and clean all of the different pieces, you need to do some hardwood floor cleaning. Here’s how to do it.

Hardwood floor cleaning doesn’t have to be a major project and is actually quite easy if you do it right. By golly, you’ve already done it once, the first time you laid ceramic tile or hardwood flooring. So, what you need to do now is just make sure that you have a good job on the way to putting your new floor to use.

The most common problem that surfaces when it comes to hardwood floor cleaning is tracked dirt. This means that whatever your feet have stepped on end up on the carpet or hardwood floors and left a permanent indentation. tracked dirt is much easier to get rid of than loose dirt and is the reason that most carpets and floors get tracking dirt on them. With most hardwood flooring, you’ll only need to vacuum the area you’ve walked on to make sure all of the dirt is gone. If you have tracked dirt, you’ll probably need to use a wet vacuum cleaner.

Other areas that call for hardwood floor cleaning include scuff marks and nicks. Even though you may have cleaned the area with a damp mop and your vacuum cleaner, you will still have marks left from the drywall you laid. These marks can easily be removed by using rubbing alcohol or furniture polish. Make sure that you also vacuum any areas that you have marked before going to finish the job.

If you have trouble reaching hardwood floor cleaning areas, then your only option may be to hire a professional. If you want to try cleaning your floors yourself, you can still take advantage of using a good mop and a broom. A basic mop can still do a great job when it comes to hardwood floor cleaning; just make sure that you purchase a vacuum cleaner that can reach the corners, especially if you have a hallway or large room where you need to clean more than one piece of furniture at a time. A good quality vacuum can also help remove food crumbs and pet hair from your floors, so make sure that you keep a nice collection of vacuum cleaners around.

Some people prefer to use a sweeper to sweep their hardwood flooring, but you may want to consider investing in a good vacuum cleaner that can reach the corners as well. For the best results, you should purchase a sweeper with both a brush attachment and a rotating brush head. You will also want to purchase a sweeper that has an attachment for hard floors. Once you begin to sweep your floors, make sure that you clean the whole space with the sweeper. Even the tiniest corner can harbor bacteria, so don’t forget to sweep away dirt before you even reach the floor!
